A strong storm system hitting the West Coast Tuesday will bring bring at least two rounds of strong to severe storms across Arkansas.

The first round will arrive Wednesday afternoon and evening. This round comes with a risk for isolated tornadoes, damaging wind, and large hail. Rainfall totals may only be around 1″, so the the risk for flash flooding appears relatively low with the first round.

Thursday, will likely come with off-and-on showers and a few thunderstorms during the day. But in the evening, a stronger line of storms will come out of Oklahoma and Texas as the main upper-level low starts to move though.

This line will likely be producing damaging wind (60-70 mph), some tornadoes (and possibly stronger tornadoes), and very large hail (golf ball to baseball sized). Overall rain totals Thursday and Thursday night may approach 2-3″, so two day rain totals may be 4″ in places. Therefore, the flooding potential will show up Thursday evening and Friday morning.

Round one will likely begin sometime late Wednesday afternoon, likely between 3 and 5 p.m.

As mentioned above, the flooding potential will go up Thursday evening as the second round of storms drops 2″ or more on places that already picked up close to an inch Wednesday.

To make matters worse, many rivers and streams are already swollen with some in flood stage. So, 3″ of rain or more may prove troublesome Thursday night and Friday morning.
