The U.S. Olympic Swim Trials are taking place in Omaha, Nebraska, and this year, there’s something new to help the athletes cope with the pressure.
In an effort to calm some nerves, a nonprofit organization is providing relief…on four legs.
U.S.A. Swimming is pairing with Domesti-PUPS to bring as many as five therapy dogs to the swimmers lounge each day.
Holly is just one example of these furry little helpers. She’s a 4-year-old Havanese and is melting the hearts of swimmers.
“Holly’s here as a therapy dog and she’s spending time in the swimmer’s lounge, about six hours a day we are having dogs in there,” said Domesti-PUPS representative Sandra Ludwig.
Cassandra Jernberg, who is originally from Milwaukee, said spending time with the dogs helps take her mind off swimming.
“I came yesterday before my races and I think it helped a little bit just because I got to think about something else other than swimming for awhile,” said Jernberg.
