In December, Arkansas signed a talented offensive lineman from Tulsa (Okla.) Union. With Ricky Stromberg signed now in the Class of 2019, Arkansas is still eyeing the talent at Union.
On Saturday, 2020 center Gabe Cantu visited for a Prospect Day as did fellow offensive lineman Jake Henry. Following the visit, Cantu talked about how it went.
“It was great,” Cantu said. “Great family environment. Just personally they like to get to know you. It feels like family around here. They care about you, they tell you about it and it was a great experience.”
Cantu, 6-3, 295, talked about his recruiting and how it’s going.
“It’s been going good,” Cantu said. “I’ve had a couple of looks, but not really open to talking about it. It has been fun. Great to be here.”
As far as your football improvements, what are you still working on?
“I’m working on my mobility,” Cantu said. “Just getting better. I’ve got the physical part down. Just working on my mobility and flexibility.”
Cantu said he wasn’t sure where his next visit will be.
“Wherever the Lord calls me is where I’m gonna go,” Cantu said. “That’s the plan.”
As far as Stromberg, how much has he influenced your game?
“Ricky has influenced me a lot,” Cantu said. “He has taught me how to be nasty on the field. He doesn’t quit. It has been really fun playing with him.”
Tulsa Union was 9-3 this season and is one of the more successful programs each season in Oklahoma. Cantu talked about all the success Union has had through the years.
“Just the culture,” Cantu said. “We have a winning culture around there. That’s how we’re raised. We’re raised like a family. The culture carries on. We have been through a lot of adversity too so it really helps out.”
Dustin Fry is the offensive line coach at Arkansas. Cantu spent some time with him on Saturday.
“He got to know me,” Cantu said. “It has been fun. He’s a good guy.”
Henry, 6-4, 260, is also in the 2020 class and is a guard and tackle for Union.
