The Razorbacks upset win on the road over TCU did several things for the Arkansas football program but none more important than the early season hope that fans have been missing the last couple of years. In 2014 the Hogs lost game one at Auburn. I was the off season before that Auburn’s Gus Malzahn and Arkansas’ Bret Bielema got into a public war of words regarding the hurry up offenses and their effect on player safety. It was that off season tiff that made the opening day loss on the plains that much worse for Hog fans.
Last year the Razorback suffered a shocking game two loss to the Toledo Rockets in a game where Arkansas could only muster 12 total points. Toledo was a good team that year but should not be able to hang with SEC Arkansas in a home game, Little Rock setting. After Toledo came a home loss in Fayetteville to Texas Tech who’s head coach Kliff Kingsbury and Bielema were dealing with an off season issue of their own. Including Tech and Toledo the Razorback would start the season with a 1-3 record last year before rebounding for a 8-5, 5-3 (SEC) season including a bowl victory over Kansas State in the Liberty Bowl.
They say it’s not how you start but how you finish in life but in football Hog fans have been waiting for a faster start. With that big win over TCU Arkansas has a 2-0 start t the season for the first times since 2013. I expect another win this week hosting Sun Belt member Texas State in Fayetteville. With a win over the Bobcats Saturday the Hogs would be 3-0 heading into the Texas A&M game. Its hard to beat the same team 5 straight times and the Aggies have won four straight over Arkansas so this is lining up to be the year where the Razorbacks beat the Aggies. Game five is lowly Alcorn State in Little Rock so there is a chance the top-25 Razorbacks could start the season 5-0 as I happen to have predicted this off season. No game is more important than the next game but the win over TCU and a 2-0 start to the season is something Hog fans have been waiting for. Now we will sit back and see how is all plays out.
