LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Practice makes perfect, the Arkansas Forestry Commission trained with its air tankers.
The goal, practice quick turnarounds, refill the tanker with hundreds of gallons of water as fast as possible, turn around and make it rain.
“We need training all the time. We never know when we’re going to get a drought. We never know when we will get a few weeks of low humidity and high winds and we go to be there,” says Joe Fox.
Volunteer Fire Department personnel were also on hand learning the safest and best way to hook up fire hoses to the tankers, which the Forestry Commission says has already saved countless lives and structures.
