LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Little Rock Police released the names of the people involved in Friday’s officer-involved shooting.
In a press release, LRPD says Officer Charles Starks was on patrol in the Northwest Division Friday around 11 am.
Officer Starks saw a 2018 black Nissan Altima in a parking lot on 12th Street and Rodney Parham Road. Police say, according to records, the vehicle was listed as stolen.
LRPD says Bradley Blackshire, 31, was driving the car. During the stop, Blackshire refused Officer Starks verbal commands to get out of the Altima. Police say that’s when Blackshire began to drive forward.
Police say Officer Starks fired his weapon hitting Blackshire. Once the car came to a stop, officers attempted to render aid to Blackshire, but he died while on scene.
Officer Starks was transported to an area hospital for his injuries.
Detectives interviewed potential witnesses, and a passenger in the car with Blackshire.
During the investigation, LRPD says a vehicle driving on 12th Street was hit by a stray bullet from the shooting.
Blackshire’s body has been sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab.
Officer Charles Starks was hired as a Little Rock Police officer on August 12, 2013. Officer Starks has been placed on administrative leave.
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – One suspect is dead, one Little Rock police officer is injured following a shooting Friday morning during a traffic stop.
In a press conference, Acting Little Rock Police Chief Wayne Bewley said at 11:10 a.m. an officer from the northwest precinct made a traffic stop on a reported stolen vehicle on 12th and Rodney Parham.
The vehicle pulled over in a parking lot in front of African Hair Braiding. When the officer approached, the vehicle began to drive away striking the officer.
The unnamed officer fired at the vehicle, hitting the male driver. It is unknown at this time the number of shots that were fired. The male suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, Acting Police Chief Bewley said.
LRPD does not yet know if the suspect had a gun.
Acting LRPD Chief Bewley said the officer was injured by the suspect vehicle and was taken by MEMS to Baptist Health hospital for treatment. The extent of the officer’s injuries are unknown at this time.
Bewley added that one uninjured woman was inside the stolen vehicle during the incident. She is being questioned by authorities. A witness is also being questioned.
Detectives are still processing the scene and did not offer further details.

Little Rock Police say the shooting happened just before 11:30 a.m. in front of a red Chevy Tahoe next to a business, African Hair Braiding.
The LRPD acting chief is at the scene.
It is not yet known who was shot during the incident.
