LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A local woman and her toddler son have been identified as the victims of a double homicide discovered Thursday morning at an apartment complex.
The bodies of Jamika Lewis, 23 and Ja’Shun Watson, 2, were found in the parking lot of the Eagle Hill Apartments located at 25 Par Dr., just off W. Baseline Road.
In a news release issued Friday afternoon, the Little Rock Police Department said a woman reported seeing the victims lying in front of building 25 of the complex and had tried to wake them. When they did not move, she called for help. Both are believed to have been shot.
Inside a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier next to the victims, officers found an unharmed baby girl. She was taken to Arkansas Children’s Hospital to be checked out.
“That crushed me… I was really upset yesterday,” says Kendria Jones, who lives at Eagle Hill Apts.
Jones and other people who live in the complex are horrified tp learn more about the double murder that happened just yards away from their doors.
“With it being that time of morning someone should’ve seen something,” she continues. “You’ve taken away an innocent child’s life, you’ve taken away a mom’s life that wasn’t fair… and then there’s a newborn baby that will no longer see her mom”
Jones is a single mother and says this tragedy is all too familiar.
“I’ve dealt with my oldest son, his father was murdered when he was 9 months, so for me it hits home to know that a family has to deal with this ordeal. It’s never easy.”
Police have not yet released any information on possible suspects in Thursday’s killings.
