BENTON, Ark. – Two parolees were arrested in a Benton shooting case, police say.

On July 4 before 10 p.m., police were called to Ralph Bunche Park in response to shots being fired. Officers were unable to find any evidence of criminal activity at the time, and no arrests were made.

On July 6 at 4:30 p.m., authorities were called to an area of Valley Street after shots were fired at a home.

The Benton Police Department said detectives were able to connect the two incidents, and two men were arrested in connection with both.

Jonathon Cox, 24, and Robert Higgs, 47, both of Benton were taken into custody and face 18 counts of aggravated assault and one count of possession of a firearm by certain persons, police said. The aggravated assault charges were in response to the number of people in close proximity to the shooting scene.

Both men are active parolees from the Arkansas Department of Community Corrections.

Cox was given a $150,000 bond, and Higgs was given a $100,000 bond, according to authorities.
