Texarkana toddler dies at Little Rock Hospital; parents facing charges


TEXARKANA, Ark. (KTAL/KMSS) – A local toddler airlifted to Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock on Tuesday has died.

That’s according to the Texarkana Arkansas Police Department.

Earlier Tuesday police said the three-year-old girl’s father and step-mother had been arrested on suspicion of causing her injuries.

McKenna Belcher-Cawley, 26, and her husband Everette Cawley, 23, were taken into custody after police responded to a call from St. Michael’s hospital.

Hospital staff called police when the child was brought to the hospital unresponsive with  injuries from suspected abuse.  

After initial treatment, she was transferred to ACH due to extensive external and internal injuries.   

The Cawley’s were first charged with Battery and now McKenna Cawley has been charged with Capital Murder and Domestic Battery in the 2nd Degree while Everette Cawley has been charged with 2 counts of permitting the abuse of a minor. 

Two additional children, one infant and one toddler, were removed from the home and taken into state custody.
