LITTLE ROCK, AR – The State Capitol is being closed to weekend visitors for the next few months.
In a news release issued Tuesday, the Secretary of State’s Office (SOS) said it’s because of ongoing construction and concern for the safety of visitors.
The closure which starts on Saturday, July 25, is in effect for Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.
The Capitol is currently undergoing renovations, including on the north end of the building in the House barrel vault and on the first floor.
The SOS says the closure will remain in effect through the Fall as construction work is completed.
The building will be open to the public during normal business hours from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The Capitol is expected to reopen on weekends at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5 for the Capitol Lighting Ceremony and remain open through the holiday season.
