LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A local woman escaped injury in a late night purse snatching on Tuesday.
It happened outside the Target store on S. University near Midtown.
A Little Rock Police Department report shows officers were called to the scene around 10 p.m.
The victim was walking out of Target to get to her car. The next thing she knew, her purse had been snatched.
“A gentleman took her purse and fled south from the business,” said Ofc. Eric Barnes, Little Rock Police Department.
Police say the suspect may have been waiting for someone like the victim.
“When someone wants to get away with a crime they are going to look for a target that may be easy. Someone that’s not paying attention. Someone that’s on their phone,” Ofc. Barnes explains.
The victim handed over her bag and then called police. The Little Rock Police Department says she did exactly what she’s supposed to do.
“You have the right to protect yourself, but that purse is not more valuable then your life,” Ofc. Barnes continues.
She told police the suspect first ran behind the store and was last seen running toward St. Vincent.
“That is very terrible,” said shopper Amanda Harris when we told her about the incident. “It’s a sad world that we live in right now, absolutely.”
Harris says the case maker her think twice, especially when she’s visiting from out of town.
“It makes me more aware and makes me more aware of my surroundings and who is around me at all times,” she says.
The police report noted surveillance video was expected to be available from the store on Wednesday.
