Bill proposes renaming the 501 Building after Winthrop Rockefeller

Politics

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A building across the street from the Arkansas Capitol could soon bear the name of the first Republican governor since reconstruction.

The legislation would designate the 501 building in Little Rock as the Winthrop Rockefeller building.

The bill’s sponsor says Rockefeller lived in an apartment in the building for the first several months of his administration while he paid to renovate the governor’s mansion.

“It would be an appropriate way to honor not just Gov. Winthrop Rockefeller but Lt. Gov. Win Paul Rockefeller and their entire family who have contributed so much to this state. I would appreciate a good vote,” says St. Sen. Mark Johnson (R-Little Rock).

The Senate-approved proposal will go to the House floor tomorrow which should be the last day of the session.
