UPDATE: Child taken hostage passes away due to injury, Man killed in officer-involved shooting, police still investigating


LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Little Rock Police Chief Keith Humphrey addressed the public Saturday afternoon in regards to Friday night’s officer-involved shooting.

Chief Humphrey announced that the 11-year-old child injured in the shooting passed away due to injuries sustained making this the 17th homicide in Little Rock this year.

In the press conference Chief Humphrey said that the officers found the child inside the residence suffering from a pair of gunshot wounds and immediately performed life-saving procedures until the child was taken to Children’s Hospital for treatment.

Police are still investigating the situation to determine why the man shot the child.


LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Little Rock Police Chief Keith Humphrey addressed the public tonight in regards to Friday night’s officer-involved shooting that left one man dead and a child injured.

Chief Humphrey said a woman came to the police station and told police that a man had taken her child hostage. Officers responded to the location.

Police then called SWAT.

Officers heard shots fired inside the home the man and the child were in. According to police, the officers knew there was a child inside the home being held hostage, and for the safety of the child, police gained entry inside the home.

At that point it was said the man confronted the officers and officers shot the man.

Officers then found the child in a separate room suffering from gunshot wounds. The man was pronounced dead at the scene and the child was taken to a local hospital.

The child’s condition is not known at this time.

This investigation is still ongoing.

Chief Humphrey said they will be providing additional information to the public tomorrow.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Little Rock Police are investigating an officer involved shooting.

The shooting took place just before 7:30 this evening on Karon Court, which is just south of Baptist Hospital near Barrow Road.

Little Rock Police responded to a disturbance call with a weapon. The shooting that happened in the Karon Court area happened an hour after police responded to that call.
