LRPD: 3 injured in nightclub shooting

News

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Little Rock police are looking for a shooter who opened fire in a crowded nightclub early Saturday morning, injuring three people.

Police were called to Club Empire in the 3300 block of West Roosevelt around 1 a.m. The club had been hosting an after party for actor and comedian Mike Epps, who had just performed at the Verizon Arena.

Officers found a man shot twice in the abdomen, a woman shot in the upper thigh, fracturing her pelvis, and another woman shot in the heel. None of the injuries are considered life-threatening.

One of the victims in this shooting, is also listed on police reports as a victim in the Power Ultra Lounge shooting nearly two years ago.

According to police reports, witnesses saw several people fighting and then someone pulled out a gun.

Police are looking for the shooter, who witnesses say left the scene in an orange Dodge Charger.

Club Empire posted on Facebook advertising the event and stating, “security strictly enforced.” Now officers are trying to see what fell short.

“They had a metal detector there that people have to walk through,” explained Lt. Michael Ford with the Little Rock Police Department.

Police say the club will also hire off-duty officers, but felt it wasn’t needed for this event

“The promoter of the event did not feel it was an event that would be violent,” Lt. Ford said. “It was what he believed would be a much older crowd.”

As detectives try to track down the shooter officers say they’ll be working with the club to improve safety.

“Just trying to figure out was there something that was lacking there that night, whether they need officers at every event,” Lt. Ford added.

KARK 4 News reached out to club management but has not heard back.

Club promoter Bryan Stewart, who also served on the Mayor’s tranisition subcommittee focused on quality of life, posted on Facebook saying:

We really try to bring solid entertainment to the city of Little Rock and know that we take the safety of our patrons & employees seriously. I’m at a loss for words as it relates to the incident occurred tonight. I’m praying for everyone who was at Empire, while also praying for the people that were injured, and lastly, I’m praying for the city that I love so much to do better than this. 1 bad Apple can spoil a litter!!!
