LITTLE ROCK, AR — The Little Rock Police Department confirms it has taken a man wanted for shooting two people, killing one of them, into custody.

Steven Hayes was arrested and will be charged with first-degree murder and first-degree battery. He is accused of killing Shoncoven Smith and shooting another man at 3224 Elam around 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

Smith’s family and Hayes’ father pleaded for him to come forward earlier in the week.

Police say he was found at 5:50 p.m. Thursday at a home on South Main Street in Little Rock.

Smith’s mother, Lakesia, says the family is ready to move forward.

“It’s going to take time. It’s going to take time for us to heal and today is a healing point for us because (Hayes) e is no longer on the streets hurting anybody else child,” said Lakesia.
