VILONIA, Ark. – A local family is trying to pick up what’s left after their home caught fire Monday afternoon.
“It hurts you know, but there is a lot that you can’t save. This home can be replaced,” Ambra Greer said.
The Vilonia Fire Department says it started in the living room area near an air conditioning unit.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The home is a complete loss and all that’s left is burnt pieces of wood and shattered glass.
Greer is a mother of two small kids and has a baby on the way.
She’s grateful no one was hurt but, now she’s trying to figure out what’s next for her family.
“It’s hard after losing my mom. It’s devastating. It really is,” Greer added.
It’s hard for Greer to look at her home on Cody Lane in Vilonia.
“We just remodeled it inside and out and this all went down,” she continued.
The mom says it all started when she was at her dad’s home down the street.
“I was helping clean his house because he’s in the hospital and I hear the smoke alarms go off. I thought it was someone else down the road and I kept hearing it go off, ran over here to see if it was mine going off and it was mine,” Greer explained. “It was so bad by the time the fire department got here it was up In flames.”
Her husband James tried to see if anything made it out.
“It hurts you know but there is a lot that you can save but there is a home that can be replaced,” Greer said. “Just thinking about all of the pictures I had of my mom who passed away. All of the stuff that my kids got for Christmas last year.”
Years of memories burned to the ground.
“I just wish there was stuff saveable but it’s all gone,” Greer said.
Scorched kitchen appliances, charred pieces of metal and a toy car are all that’s left.
“It’s hard knowing I’m about to have another kid and have to start over and find somewhere else to build,” Greer said.
The Red Cross is helping the family.
The Conway Ministry Center is also providing the family with baby items, clothes and stuff they need.
Greer says any help is greatly appreciated.
