Update (Jan. 10):
Phillip Belcher, accused of viciously beating Saline County man Stanley Kaiser at a Dollar General last month, is back in custody.
Kaiser died of injuries Jan. 5.
Belcher was given a $100,000 sheriff’s bond at a hearing this morning.
Officials say charges will be upgraded as soon as the investigation is complete.
A man brutally assaulted outside a Dollar General in Saline county last month, has died.
It’s a common routine many Dollar General customers have: grab a couple items, get in the car, head to the next destination.
But for Stanley Kaiser the simple errand on Dec. 11, turned dangerous, and now deadly.
Kaiser was assaulted outside the store. Saline County Sheriff’s Office arrested 33-year-old Phillip Belcher for the crime one week later on Dec. 18.
Belcher faced 2nd degree battery charges. He was released without bond.
While Belcher was out of jail, Kaiser remained in the hospital.
“It was several days before he actually even opened his eyes. Of course they were swollen quite bad at first,” his brother-in-law Allen Quattlebaum said.
According to the family, Kaiser was a retired chiropractor and most recently a part-time TSA agent.
He was also an avid golfer and gardener. He loved nature and loved life.
“There has to be a time for grief, but you realize that he would have wanted you to continue, so we will.”
Now the family is trusting the justice system to determine the degree of murder Belcher may face.
“He was just a fun loving guy, we’re really going to miss him,” Quattlebaum said.
Belcher is set for a bond hearing Jan. 10 at 10 a.m. at the Saline County Courthouse.
