IZARD COUNTY, Ark. – The Izard County Sheriff is calling it the most severe case of abuse he’s ever witnessed.

“I think it’s the most absolute worst that we’ve ever seen, even in cases involving children,” said Sheriff Tate Lawrence.

An 86-year-old woman is now fighting for her life.

“She’s in a dire circumstance,” he said.

Photos of her injuries are so gruesome, we can’t show them.

“Very deployable condition: bedsores, rotting flesh, extremely lacking in personal hygiene,” he said.

The woman lived in a home in Mount Pleasant with her daughter Janet O’Malley and son-in-law Timothy O’Malley, who are now charged in the case.

The couple posted bond.

KARK 4 News went to the home to ask the couple what happened and Janet only said everyone is ill and she’s sorry.

Deputies say the inside of the home is in ‘complete disarray’ and ‘filthy’. Authorities say there’s feces and urine in the carpet.

“Plastic trash bag hung from the ceiling to direct the water coming from the roof into a garbage bag,” said Lawrence.

Court documents show deputies found a 30-day supply prescription medications from August and September that still contained many pills.

Those documents also allege that Timothy is the primary caretaker of the victim. He said he was going to bring the victim to the hospital to get medical attention but he became sick.

If convicted, the couple is facing 3-6 years in prison.
