HENSLEY, Ark. – A 5-year-old Arkansas boy, who attends Daisy Bates Elementary School, was hospitalized after deputies with the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office said that he was involved in an accident with a school bus Friday.
According to deputies, the child has a broken leg and pelvis.
PCSO officials said that the child’s legs were run over after he fell while exiting the bus around 4 p.m.
On Saturday, officials with the Pulaski County Special School District released a statement regarding the incident.
On Friday, May 12 at approximately 4pm, an elementary student from Daisy Bates Elementary was injured in an accident involving a PCSSD bus. Due to the injuries, the student was immediately taken to Arkansas Children’s Hospital. The PCSSD superintendent and principal, teacher and counselor from Daisy Bates Elementary went to hospital to offer support for the family on Friday evening. The student remains in the hospital with family. We offer our thoughts and prayers to the family. Out of respect for the family, the District will not have any additional comment at this time.

Officials said that the injured child had gotten off the bus with a group of children and the driver believed they were clear and away from the bus, but the boy had fallen before being struck by the wheel.
