BRYANT, Ark. – Bryant police said late Monday afternoon that they are investigating the shooting of a 2-year-old as possibly accidental.

According to investigators, officers were called to the Fairways at Hurricane Creek apartment complex on Double Eagle Way around 10 a.m., where they found the toddler shot in the stomach.

Police said the toddler was air-lifted from the scene and taken to a local hospital for treatment.

In their afternoon update, police noted that doctors at Arkansas Children’s Hospital had performed surgery on the toddler and said he was still in critical condition.

“You don’t want to see anybody get hurt,” Sgt Todd Crowson with the Bryant Police Department said. “We just finished up the holidays, obviously, but yeah, when it is a child involved in a, there’s something about that just, it really hits home really hard.”

Detectives are continuing to investigate, and BPD Chief Carl Minden noted that charges in the case could still be filed based on the findings of those investigations.
