HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Police say a 21 year-old man was found shot behind a IHOP in Hot Springs Sunday morning.
“All of a sudden we hear a lady say get down, there’s been shots fired outside,” says Kaylee Cameron.
Cameron had just finished her shift in Downtown Hot Springs. “I was working at the porter house so we were able to see the parade coming through,” says Cameron.
When she decided to head with a friend to grab a bite to eat at Ihop on Central Avenue. “Me and my friend were just observing everything, talking about everything happening, all the shootings that have been going on,” says Cameron.
Then she heard gunshots – coming from outside the restaurant. “The alarms were going off,” she says. “I started having a panic attack and then I called the cops.”
Police say 21-year old Tavvorye Whitaker – Lemons was found behind the restaurant with a gunshot wound to his foot and leg.
This all happening – less than two miles from Oaklawn and Downtown. “My reaction is sad,” says tourist, Danny Leroux.
Tourists I spoke to along central avenue – say this latest shooting won’t stop them from coming back. “Being from Monroe you hear about crime all the time, and I was driving back from Shreveport and Monroe all the time,” says Mary Smith. “Things happen all over the planet now, you have to be able to work with it,” say Leroux.
Now, Kaylee says she’s on edge – after this latest shooting hits a little too close to home. “Ive decided that I’m going to take outs and there’s no way I’m going to sit in anywhere to eat because of my fears,” says Kaylee.
Police say his injuries were not life-threatening, that he was uncooperative with officers and refused to provide information.
Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to call the HSPD at (501) 321-6789.
