At 6:19 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2019, an EF-1 Tornado with maximum wind gusts of 110 mph (EF-1 tornadoes range from 86-110 mph) hit in the northeast part of Pine Bluff, AR on Idaho Street. The tornado lasted for less than a minute, but did serious damage to two apartment complexes. At least two walls caved in, the roof was opened up. No one died in the tornado, but there were four injuries.
In addition to the apartment complexes, several trees in the area were uprooted. Some trees were also snapped along with some utility poles.
This tornado was nearly impossible to detect on radar because there was never a clear signature of a tornado. The radar beam scans an area about once every 5 minutes. This tornado likely formed in the window between scans. Unfortunately, a tornado warning was not issued before the tornado formed.
