PINE BLUFF, Ark. — A time of rest turned to panic for Rubbie Knight and her 92-year-old mother Thursday.
“I heard a real loud noise,” she said making her jump out of bed.
Looking out her window she realized a massive tree had fallen on their house, straight into her mother’s room and blocking the doors.
“I was trying to get my mom, just trying to get her out of that room,” Knight said sitting outside their home.
That’s when she heard knocking at her door. When she answered, there was Steven Harris ready to help.
“I seen where the tree had fell in and I almost panicked myself,” Harris said.
He had taken the day off from work and was visiting a friend on another street.
Though they didn’t know each other, Knight was grateful for the help.
“I just pushed the dresser out of the way and said come on let’s get to safety,” Harris said describing getting to the 92 year old.
“This is my, this is my hero for the day. He saved us,” Knight said hugging Harris.
The tree went through the bedroom , utility room and kitchen but didn’t touch her mother.
“I’m just so thankful to God. I don’t care about the house or anything in there, I’m just glad my mom is out.”
And Knight believes this stranger now turned friend was a gift from God.
“He may not come when you want him but he is always on time. And he was on time, he was on time sister.”
