Man Dies Inside Burning Truck in Russellville

Local News

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – New video surfaced on Friday of a Thursday afternoon fire at a local apartment complex.

Police and fire investigators say they found a victim inside the vehicle on the parking lot of the Village Square Apartments.

One woman who lives there and saw the whole thing told us everything changed the minute firefighters pried the doors open and realized somebody was inside.

“Chaos,” is how Joyce D. Geragotelis-Roughan who called for help when she saw the vehicle in flames.

Cell phone video shows the flames and smoke billowing out of a truck as residents watched and wondered if anyone had been inside. But Joyce Geragotelis-Roughan says she knew.

There were “flames shooting out of the front fender wells,” she says.

Hearing a truck engine loudly revving, she looked outside to see someone sitting in it.  When it burst into flames, she screamed for help but by the time a neighbor tried to put it out, the smoke was so thick.

“No one could see inside to know someone was still in there,” she explains. “Scary. It’s very hurtful when you see that somebody’s there and they’re telling you no and I’m going like, where did they go.”

According to the Russellville Fire Department, firefighters found the Ford Ranger with the engine compartment and cab on fire and ultimately found a victim inside.

“A waste of a young kid,” says Geragotelis-Roughan.

She says her neighbor who was in the truck was 22-years-old.

“It’s a life. It’s a future that didn’t get a chance,” she says.

We spoke with the Russellville Fire Marshal today and he told us they have not made a determination as to what caused the fire. Some people today were convinced it was an accident.
