Lowell Homicide Suspect in Custody

LOWELL, Ark. – The names of a homicide victim and suspect in a Tuesday incident have been released by police.

The Lowell Police Department says Jose Alonso Torres, 26, faces a charge of Capital Murder in the shooting death of Norma Salinas, 27. He also faces a charges of Aggravated Assault on three individuals who tried to stop him as well as a charge of Endangering the Welfare of a Minor since a 1-year-old child was inside a vehicle the deadly shots were fired into.

According to Torres’ arrest affidavit, a witness reported smelling alcohol on Torres’ breath during the shooting.

Witnesses told police he drove up as a friend was giving Salinas a ride and asked her to get out the vehicle and come with him. The witnesses say she refused and locked the door.

They say Torres then pulled out a gun and fired at the window.

Salinas was pronounced dead at the Mercy Hospital emergency room.

Torres was arrested a short time later after family members called police to report where he was and also where he left the gun allegedly used in the killing.

The victim was pronounced dead at Mercy Hospital in Rogers.

LOWELL, Ark. (KNWA) — Lowell police are investigating a possible shooting homicide.

Police say the incident happened at Fullerton Trailer Park in the 100 block of Fullerton Avenue in response around 5 p.m. Tuesday.

When officers arrived they found a person who had been shot. That person was taken to Mercy Hospital in Rogers.

The victim later died at the hospital, according to Lt. Paul Pillaro of the Lowell Police Department.

No information was provided regarding the age or gender of the suspect.
