LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (News release) – You only turn one once, so don’t miss your chance to wish our gorilla infant, Bukavu, a happy first birthday!

Come to the Zoo on Saturday, June 8, 2019, at 1:30 p.m. to wish him another great year!

This party, held at the top of the Great Apes Viewing Area, will be a lot of fun!  Beginning at 1:30 pm, guests are invited to enjoy cake and refreshments while supplies last. This special celebration will also include a craft-making pre-party at 11:30 a.m. to get all the fun started!

If guests want to bring Bukavu a present for his enrichment, they are welcome to bring unopened cereal, dried fruit, oatmeal, Kong dog toys, fleece blankets, and kids’ bubble bath.

The western lowland Gorillas are an important part of the family of animals at the Little Rock Zoo. The Great Apes area at the Little Rock Zoo is home to seven of them.  We have two adult males, Kivu and Brutus, and one infant male, Bukavu, the birthday boy!  We also have four adult females: Sekani, Bukavu’s mother, Catherine, Adeline, and Trudy.  Trudy carries the honor of being the world’s oldest gorilla-yes, right here with us at the Little Rock Zoo!

The Great Apes exhibit features two huge yards for the gorillas and plenty of observatory deck space for viewing them in their habitat.  We invite you to come visit the gorillas at any time.

The Little Rock Zoo is an active supporter of conservation funds that protect gorillas, such as the Diane Fossey Gorilla Fund International (DFGFI), that is dedicated to the conservation, protection and study of gorillas and their habitats.   Please join the Zoo’s efforts to secure a future for this species by donating to our conservation fund

The cost for this afternoon of fun is included in the regular Zoo admission prices and members are always free! Come out to celebrate, play, learn about our gorillas, and enjoy birthday treats! Come love your Little Rock Zoo!
