LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A big birthday bash is being planned at the Little Rock Zoo this Saturday.

The guest of honor will be Sophie the elephant, who’s turning 50!

Her party is taking place from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the elephant yard. Guests will be invited to hide treats for the elephants to enjoy in celebration of Sophie and then guests will be invited to enjoy birthday cake (while supplies last).

The party plans were revealed on Wednesday as Hiland Dairy announced its annual support of the Little Rock Zoo. Hiland Dairy has been a major sponsor, cheerleader and overall supporter of the Little Rock Zoo for several years. Hiland is known for its support of an annual Hiland Dairy Dollar Day at the Zoo held each summer as well as its support of several Zoo events such as Boo at the Zoo and Wild Wines. Hiland also provides in-kind product for the Zoo’s Café Africa as well as in-kind product for Zoo special events and programs. The family based company has provided more than half-a-million in support for the Little Rock Zoo over the years.

“We really value our partnership with the Zoo,” said Hiland Dairy’s CEO Mike Flagg. “It’s just such a fun and positive experience for families.”

Sophie enjoyed some treats from Hiland Dairy during Wednesday’s announcement.
