LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — And the winner is… “Bukavu”.
The Little Rock Zoo has announced the name of the baby gorilla.
The public was given the opportunity to participate in the naming, and an online poll determined Bukavu is the name given to the baby male.
Bukavu(boo-kah-voo) is named for an African city located on the south-western edge of Lake Kivu.
The city lies in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and shares a border with Rwanda.
The Zoo announced the name of the baby gorilla at an ice themed party for the animals at noon, with the name revealed as a part of an ice sculpture.
Bukavu was born on June 20th.
