CONWAY, Ark. - Lost military medals have been replaced for a local Korean War veteran honored in a special ceremony on Friday.
Guy E. Carr, United States Air Force Airman First Class, was awarded his five medals by Congressman French Hill at Brookdale Assisted Living Center in Conway.
Carr served from Dec. 27, 1950, to Nov. 3, 1953. He was originally trained as a Senior Turret Systems Mechanic and Gunner, but upon arriving in Kunson Korea, he was retrained as a flight systems engineer since additional gunners were not needed. He went on to fly 54 nighttime combat missions while in Korea.
For his service to our nation reflective of his warrior spirit, Congressman Hill conferred on Carr these medals:
- Distinguished Flying Cross for gallantry
- Two Air Medals for bravery in combat
- Korean Service Medal awarded by the United States serving in the Korean War
- United Nations Korean Service Medal for serving in the Korean War
