Fort Smith working to fund US Marshals Museum

Local News

FORT SMITH, Ark. – A one of a kind museum is working to raise enough funds with the help of proposed sales tax.

The city of Fort Smith is holding a special election on March 5 to give voters the chance to decide whether or not to approve a one-cent sales tax that would be in effect from July 2019 to March 2020.

The U.S. Marshals Museum leadership team pitched the need for the sales tax to a group of voters today.

“It’s time and we’re worth it to be able to support the United States Marshals Museum to move and propel us forward as Fort Smithians and really become a destination. A destination in Fort Smith of course, but in Arkansas itself,” says Alice Alt.

So far, $35 million has been raised toward construction of the Marshals Museum, but $16 million more is needed.
