FORT SMITH, Ark. (KNWA) – As flooding recedes, many people across the River Valley are left with disaster and debris, like Fort Smith business Quick Discounts.

The store has experienced its share of flooding, but one employee said it’s the worst they’ve ever seen.

Suzanna Symonds, who’s worked at Quick Discounts for over 5 years, said they took caution and prepared before the flooding began, but it wasn’t enough.

Over $300,000 worth of merchandise was lost inside the building, and even though they had insurance, it didn’t cover everything lost in the flood.

Symonds said they had to take a canoe in to get to the building.

It’s an experience she describes as emotional.

“We were all teary-eyed,” Symonds said. “I mean, it was, you know, this is not only our workplace, we’re family. There’s about 18 of us here, and it’s our second home, and it’s our family, and we kinda take it personal.”

Symonds said most of the debris was to have been cleared out by Tuesday night.

She expects the store will be open in a few weeks.
