TRASKWOOD, Ark.-A fire destroyed a families home in Traskwood, leaving five people displaced.
The family said they’re grateful to be alive because things could have been much worse.
Their home is a total lose and they’re trying to move forwards with the holidays around the corner.
Shattered glass and debris cover the front steps of Peggy Beasley’s home in Traskwood.
“It’s hard and it’s going to be hard,” Beasley said.
A fire destroyed the home late Saturday night.
“Everything in their was lost,” Beasley said.
Investigators say it was an electrical fire and it started in the living room.
Beasley said she was washing clothes, she heard a loud pop and didn’t know what happened.
“It was scary because when I walked into the living room and seen the fire….I didn’t know what was going on. I hollered at my daughter she was on the bed sleep,” Beasley said.
Beasley, her daughter Peggy and five dogs escaped. The family cat didn’t survive.
“That’s the important thing we are safe. Everything else was material,” Beasley said.
With Christmas just two days away, the family is counting their blessings.
“We will work through it,” Beasley said.
The family is receiving help from the Red Cross. The said they need clothes and shoes.
