CONWAY, Ark. – The Conway Police Department has been using different techniques to work with the community and prevent crime.
The Crime Suppression Unit was created in 2017 in an effort to deter crime. With Conway being the eighth-largest city in Arkansas it can be challenging at times.
However, Lt. Gene Hodges with the Conway Police Department says they see their relationship with the community growing stronger and their hard-work paying off.
“We’re lucky in Conway we have the support of our community,” says Lt. Hodges.
The unit is made up of five officers with their main goal to give officers more opportunities for face to face contact with people in the community.
“People see us out there and wave now,” Lt. Hodges says. “They see what we are doing – we want them to know we are here for you and they get that.”
Since starting the unit there has been a steady decline in different areas of crimes. They believe this couldn’t have been possible with the Conway community.
“If we go out and concentrate on them we have seen some decreases in that area,” explains Lt. Hodges.
