SHANNON HILLS, Ark. — Filling prescription medication is getting harder in Shannon Hills with the town’s only pharmacy set to close its doors this week.
Signs outside the Fred’s Pharmacy say the store is closing Thursday. The announcement comes a couple months after the chain was bought by Walgreens, putting locations like the Shannon Hills one on the chopping block.
“Now all we have is our little grocery store,” said Margaret Walker, who was picking up her prescriptions. “I’m beginning to think we’ll be closed off completely.”
The pharmacy told customers their prescriptions would be transferred to the Walgreens off Stagecoach Road in Little Rock, nearly 6 miles from the Fred’s.
“Now I’ve got to figure out what I’m going to do and if I want to go to Walgreens or not,” Walker said.
Some customers like Tony Creal say they plan on taking their business to a local shop, but he says it’s easier for him than some of his neighbors.
“I know there’s a lot of retirees, a lot of people with handicaps, disabilities and this was a very convenient place,” Creal said. “I just keep my fingers crossed that somebody will come in here and pick it up.”
