Benton Neighborhood on Lookout for Grinch

Local News

BENTON, Ark. – A downside to all the celebrating of the holiday season is when thieves come looking around to take your gifts.

One of the most important reminders for this time of year is to lock your doors. That goes for your home and car doors.

But what if you do that and thieves still find a way to get away with your property?

That’s a question one Benton neighborhood is asking.

Aleisha McIntire did some shopping and had a tv delivered to her home in the Longhills neighborhood.

“I pulled it in. I put it in the garage that afternoon and I went Christmas shopping and got a few more things,” she explains.

She left those presents in the car.

“I tend to leave things in the car overnight. When my kids are in bed, I take them out and wrap them and put them under the tree when I have time,” she continues.

There were other plans for those gifts. They would never make it under their tree if grinches had anything to do with it.

“I noticed the tv was missing, and so that was my first instinct, oh my gosh we’ve been robbed,” she says.

And they got away with more than just that tv. Power tools, golf clubs….and well, the grinch took all those Christmas presents.

“It’s happened a lot in our neighborhood. I wish I had taken more precautions,” Aleisha says.

The Saline County Sheriff’s Office says they’ve had 20 breaking or entering reports throughout the county in the past two weeks.

And so they say “tis the season.”

“Everybody should watch out because the grinches are out, and it’s a horrible thing. At the end the Grinch is nice but our grinches aren’t nice at all,” adds Aleisha.

She says her garage door was locked and the thieves still got inside. Now she’s increasing her security camera sensitivity to notify her if someone is near her home.
