AR Disc Jockey Spends Time Away From Mic Helping Community

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - He's got one of the most popular and recognizable voices in Arkansas radio... but it's what he does away from the microphone that's making a difference.
Every morning, thousands of Arkansans wake up to Power 92 and the voice of Broadway Joe.
But this morning radio host is about more than just music, laughs and personality. Broadway Joe is also focused on communities -- including the areas of the Capitol City that have seen an increase in crime.
"It's terrible," Joe says. "It's very important for us to get involved."
For Joe, a solution is simple... "To be honest, I'm really not afraid to go into the neighborhood."
Spending time away from the mic and away from the comforts of a studio...
"I have a platform here at the radio station and I've tried to use that platform to be involved in our community, to make a difference. We do mentoring with the young people with the youth football program. We do mentoring with adults, with the jammers charity basketball program," Joe explains. "As busy as we get with what we do, we still have to take time to give back."
Finding Victory over Violence... for this disc jockey, it's as easy as time.
"I think it can make a difference in the amount of violence that we have in our community if we have more people that are in positions, influential people, to come back to the neighborhoods and not be afraid to come back and give back," Joe says.
While we may recognize his voice, Broadway Joe might rather be known for his heart of making a difference.
"I would hope that one of the things that I would be remembered for is what we do in the community," Joe says.
A great reminder and a better challenge to keep giving back as we are searching for solutions.
"People have to be brave enough to stand up and speak out..." Joe says.
