LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Alma, in Western Arkansas, is in the spotlight after making the list in a new survey of the “Most Bizarre or Embarrassing Landmark From Every Single State.”

Mandatory, on the culture website Crave Online, compiled the list and added Alma (Crawford County) because of its statue of everyone’s favorite sailor man, Popeye.

Alma, the self-proclaimed “Spinach Capital of the World” has a Spinach Fest annually on the third weekend in April.  According to the Alma Chamber of Commerce website, this year’s event had to be canceled since it was being moved back to downtown and there was too much construction going on there this Spring. “We plan to come back in 2018 to debut our new Main Street and to put on an awesome event for you,” the chamber has posted on its website.

The bronze Popeye statue is located on Fayetteville Avenue.
