LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (News release) – On Saturday, May 11, the Little Rock Farmers’ Market will welcome farmers, artists, and other vendors from around the state to the River Market Pavilions with a Second Saturday Grand Opening event.

Sponsored by the Little Rock Convention and Visitors Bureau (LRCVB), the Little Rock Farmers’ Market (LRFM) features farm-fresh produce from farms throughout the state and region offering everything from strawberries to bok choy, and a variety of local meats, along with locally made foods, handmade crafts and more.

Located in the River Market’s open-air pavilions overlooking the Arkansas River and Riverfront Park, the Little Rock Farmers’ Market is open every Saturday in May-September from 7 a.m. – 3 p.m., ending September 28.

While the fresh produce Arkansans have eagerly awaited all spring is the star of the LRFM the grand opening of this year’s market will feature the kick off of the Market’s third year of Second Saturday Celebrations.

The Second Saturday of each month hosts a variety of special guests throughout the season including The Garden Gourmet Chef Series which features local chefs each month with a demonstration of exciting and delicious ways to prepare the local offerings at the LRFM. Other special guests returning to celebrate ‘Second Saturday’ are Little Rock’s Master Gardeners, CARE for Animals and ‘Lil Farmers kids club.

Parents can sign the kids up to participate in our LRFM kids club, ‘Lil Farmers. This program will provide a fun learning environment for the kids to explore where food comes from and experience new foods every Second Saturday from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Kids will also receive a free LRFM coloring book and crayons.

Returning to Second Saturday this year is the “Lettuce Beet Hunger” campaign hosted by the Little Rock Farmers Market in partnership with the AR Food Bank and the Hunger Relief Alliance. Shoppers and farmers can make donations of fresh food from the Market at the donation booth and our partners will deliver that fresh food to families in need the same day. In 2018, this program resulted in over 1,000 lbs of farm fresh produce donated and delivered to hungry families in Little Rock.

Returning to Second Saturday this year after a short hiatus is Yoga on the River. Hosted by JoAnn Camp with TruYoga & SUP Yoga 501 at 8:30am.

In a continuation of efforts to make healthy, fresh foods accessible to all, the LRFM will offer SNAP, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program again this season. Participants will be able to purchase tokens inside Shop the Rock in the Market Hall for use at participating farmers booths. Signage will be displayed announcing the participating vendors. In addition, the Market will again participate in Double Up Food Bucks, a grant program where SNAP tokens can be matched with up to $20 of free LRFM SNAP tokens for use on produce at the Market.

The Little Rock Farmers’ Market is also home to Synergy Saturday, a weekly wellness event that includes free health screenings, health and wellness information and resources, and free Medicare consultation from licensed insurance professionals.
