LITTLE ROCK, AR – Besides its well-known news, sports and weather anchors, there have been many others on KARK’s on-air staff through the years.

Bill Cassaday was a newsman in KARK’s early days who moved on to being the station announcer. In the 60’s, he anchored the news programs “Roadshow” at 4:30 p.m. and “Nightbeat” at 9:05 p.m.

‘Smilin’ Mack’ Carger was a show host who did both radio and television in KARK’s early days. Carger was also a professional entertainer on stage. Carger hosted the Barnyard Frolics music show on KARK radio before the station ventured into television.

Little Rock singer/musician Betty Fowler co-hosted the “Little Rock Today” show with Bud Campbell. She also did commercials for the station, which back in those days were always done live. In a 2004 special on KARK’s 50th anniversary, Fowler reminisced about some of those “awkward moments.”

Lloyd Denney, a station radio announcer also played the role of Captain Kark of “Captain Kark and the Three Stooges,” from 1960-67 which aired weekday afternoons. Denney would wear a deputy sheriff costume and teach children about safety.

Financial reporter Mary Ann Campbell presented weekly segments in the 70s and 80s called ” 4 Your Money” which shared a variety of information on how to save money.

Gary Weir was a well-known Little Rock personality but you wouldn’t recognize him without the makeup and costume that turned him into “Bozo.” He was on KARK for a few years in the 1980s.
