Hit & Run of Horse Drawn Carriage Injures 1 in Hot Springs

News

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – A Lafayette County woman is recovering after being injured this past weekend when a hit and run driver struck a horse drawn carriage she was riding on in downtown Hot Springs.

That’s according to a Hot Springs Police Department (HSPD) news release issued Tuesday on the incident. The release stated a person of interest has been identified but their name was not released. The case remains under investigation.

Police say Mary Spruell, 79, of Bradley, was thrown out of the carriage by the impact.

It happened shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday in the area of Central Ave. and Fountain Street.

The HSPD says the vehicle that drove away from the scene was a red or maroon passenger car that had struck the carriage from behind.

Spruell was taken to a local hospital for treatment and was in stable condition Tuesday, according to the police news release.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the HSPD at 501-321-6789.
