LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Follow up appointments are much easier for some Arkansas moms after having a child.
Their postpartum doctor visits are going digital.
Telemedicine is only a click away in the comfort of your own home. The new technology is changing the way doctors and patients interact.
Nicci Talley welcomed her third child in August. Since then, the road to UAMS is on an easier route.
“I could do this appointment at home, on my couch, so easy,” she says.
You heard her right..on her couch..in Sheridan..with her smartphone.
“This made it 3 thousand times easier,” she adds.
It’s as simple as logging into an app and instantly connecting with your doctor on the other side of the screen.
With two other children to look after, Nicci is feeling happy knowing she’s saving time, gas and the hassle for her postpartum hospital visit.
“It was so nice not having to get the kids ready, pack up and load up the car and drive 45 minutes to Little Rock,” she continues.
Nirvana Manning, Service Line Director with UAMS, says it boils down to convenience.
“So many of our patients come from surrounding areas, so when they come here to deliver, it’s often very cumbersome for them to come back for postpartum care,” she explains.
Doctors looked at telemedicine as a solution. It works great for moms like Nicci who have more than one child.
“They can be in the corner playing and they can do whatever they want. And there they get that one-on-one time with their provider,” Manning says.
“Would you recommend it to other mothers?,” we ask Nicci. “Yes. Most definitely,” she responds.
Nearly 10 mothers have already used telemedicine to meet with their doctors at UAMS.
