Governor signs into law School Counseling Improvement Act of 2019

News

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The governor signed new legislation today that will give school counselors more time to impact students.

Senate Bill 199 creates the School Counseling Improvement ACT of 2019.

It was signed into law this morning at North Little Rock High School.

Senator Breanne Davis and Representative Deann Vaught crafted the bill to give counselors more direct contact with students.

They, along with the governor and education commissioner believe this will improve student success and safety.

“I am tickled pink that our school counselors are going to get to do what they went to school to do and that is to help our students,” says St. Rep. DeAnn Vaught (R-Horatio).

The new law repeals the Student Services Act.

School districts will now be required to have a comprehensive school counseling program and plan.
