LITTLE ROCK, AR – Today is Good Friday and this weekend, churches across the state will celebrate Easter.
And the biggest service will happen early Sunday by the river.
As the sun rises over Little Rock on Easter Sunday, Arkansans from all denominations gather by the river to celebrate Christ. This will mark the 27th year for the tradition.
“We started this the year the amphitheater was built and Pulaski Heights has hosted the event ever year.”
It’s a gathering where college choirs join church choirs, and local students join reverends and pastors. Joining together with one voice for one reason.
“It’s definitely a service that brings the community together regardless of what faith, what church you go to, what your political affiliation is, it’s a great way to start your Easter day.”
“You can come in your jeans. You can come in your workout clothes, you can come in your Easter bonnet, all are welcome, it’s a powerful service and we hope everyone can come.”
Every year thousands gather here. Where Easter lilies line the stage and the Easter message is preached. It’s where songs of hope and celebration fill downtown Little Rock.
The Sunrise Service begins at 7 a.m. at the River Market amphitheater.
