Two AR Teachers Receive National Distinguished Award

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KNWA) - Two Arkansas teachers were honored with the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. 

Justin Leflar and Amy Sandy were among the 140 teachers selected by The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and the National Science Foundation to receive this award.

Leflar formerly taught science at Holt Middle School in the Fayetteville School District, and Sandy is a math teacher at Sonora Elementary School in the Springdale School District, according to the news release. 

The two were selected for their commitment to professional development, unique teaching techniques, and their use of technology in the classroom, according to the news release. 

Leflar and Sandy will each receive a presidential citation, a $10,000 award and a trip to Washington D.C. where they will attend an awards ceremony along with skill-building courses, according to the news release.
