LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Airplanes aren’t the only things taking off at the Clinton National Airport.
In just a few months, a program called Bow Wow Buddies is soaring in popularity.
Two of its canine stars are Yeti and Boom Shaka Laka.
The paws on patrol have one job.
“Spreads her love,” explains Georgann Freasier, ABLEPaws Facilities Coordinator.
Pet me. It’s an invitation to anyone from these four-legged friends you’ll see on the airport concourse.
“People are receptive. People miss their animals,” she adds.
Freasier and her 2-year-old lab Yeti are just one of the 25 pet therapy teams in the Bow Wow Buddies program.
“It’s all volunteer and each person owns its own animal and each person has to go through an 8 hour training,” says Shane Carter, Airport Spokesman. “Not everyone comes to the airport under happy circumstances or (may have) anxiety about flying.
While highly trained in etiquette, Yeti doesn’t hesitate to show off a couple of tricks, like sit or lie down and so does her furry co-worker, 2-year-old Boom Shaka Laka.
“They’re great ambassadors for our city and state,” Carter adds.
Whether arriving or departing, there’s no delay in helpful hounds hoping passengers carry on with a smile.
“Dogs don’t complete your life but they certainly make it better,” Freasier says.
