LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The number of Arkansans in prison is on the rise with an incarceration rate that’s now sixth in the nation.
Those numbers just released by the prison policy initiative.
It found most inmates are repeat offenders.
Leaders in northwest Arkansas are brainstorming ways to help end the cycle, some believe change will come with mentorship.
“This most precious thing any of us have is our time,” says Brenda Stringfellow.
“The recivitism rate will go down in places that have the resources,” says Marty Hausam.
A Springdale organization called returning home offers free services such as finding identification, clothing assistance and AA meetings to Arkansas after their release.
