GARLAND COUNTY, Ark.- A multi-agency manhunt began on Thursday in Hot Springs after a Level 3 sex offender ran from police, possibly gained possession of a stolen gun and disappeared into a wooded area, according to authorities.
Daniel Kemp is wanted on charges of failing to register as a sex offender and a probation violation, officials say.
Around 1:30 on Thursday afternoon, investigators say a parole officer spotted Kemp at a gas station on Albert Pike Road. Kemp ran into nearby woods and was later seen swimming across portions of Lake Hamilton. Kemp was not wearing any shoes or socks at the time, according to authorities.
The Garland County Sheriff’s Office, Hot Springs Police Department, State Police and Arkansas Community Correction spent much of the afternoon searching for Kemp. Nearly two-dozen tips poured in throughout the day, but as of late Thursday night, Kemp remained at large.
Daniel Kemp stands 5’6” and weighs 145 pounds. He has brown hair, and officers say he had visible injuries to his face when he disappeared into the woods on Thursday.
Arkansas Community Corrections is offering a $100 reward for information in the case. Tips can be given to agent Brandon Emerson at 501-520-9208.
