NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Police officials said the man sought by federal investigators and barricaded in a North Little Rock post office is dead after being shot by officers responding to the Friday morning standoff.
According to North Little Rock Police Chief Patrick Thessing, officers were notified by U.S. Marshals that the suspect was in the area of Pershing Boulevard and Main Street around 8:05 a.m.
Police officials said that the man was currently under investigation for an incident Monday when authorities said he shot at a bail bondsman. He was also wanted for outstanding warrants.
After finding the armed suspect in the 300 block of Pershing Boulevard, police said that U.S. Marshals attempted to arrest him, but the man fled and ran into the post office located on West Pershing.
Officers said that the standoff ended with shots being fired by NLRPD officers. Department officials said those officers immediately attempted life-saving measures but were unsuccessful.
Three North Little Rock police officers have been placed on administrative leave per North Little Rock Police Department Policy.
Police said that they were able to remove all employees from inside the post office, and no injuries were reported during the incident.
The incident had prompted North Little Rock High School to go on a lockdown, but that lockdown has since been lifted.
Officials have not released the suspect’s identity at this time nor additional details surrounding the shooting death at this time.
