Mother Charged in the Death of her Child, Fort Smith Police Say

Toxicology results showed the child had cranial damage & meth in his system.

FORT SMITH, Ark. - A woman is behind bars on 2nd degree murder charges for the death of her 10-month-old child, according to the Fort Smith Police Department (FSPD).

Kinyata Nichols, 36, was arrested on Monday by investigators in connection to the death of her son. Police say the boy died in December of 2017. 

Nichols has also been charged with first degree endangering the welfare of a minor. 

According to FSPD, the toxicology results showed the boy had cranial damage and meth in his system. The autopsy ruled he died as a result of a homicide. 

Authorities have yet to release any further details.
