4 Arrested in Connection to Monticello Break-ins

MONTICELLO, Ark.- Four people are facing charges after they were arrested Friday in connection to a break-in.

According to Drew County Sheriff Mark Gober, Zhakhiel Kelly, 27, Brandon Shirnes, 20, Joey Ellis, 24, and Winifred Bowers, 26, were charged with Breaking and Entering, Theft of Property and Criminal Trespass.

The sheriff says a deputy responded to a vehicle break-in call at Katie Lane around 3:45 Friday morning, when he noticed items laying on the ground near Country Club Hill.

The deputy told the sheriff that he saw Dodge Charger headlights make an abrupt turn into a driveway, back out and left in the opposite direction. The person who reported the vehicle break-in told dispatchers a white Dodge Charger with two men inside had just left his home.

The deputy then said he followed the car, and stopped it because he was not able to read the paper tags. The deputy says he smelled a strong odor of marijuana on the four people, and asked them to step out of the car.

According to the sheriff, the deputy saw several driver's licenses and social security cards belonging to several Arkansans, which he believed to be stolen.

Gober says they believe the four suspects were behind numerous break-ins in Monticello, and across the state.

The four suspects were given a $100,000 bond.
